Running

I have decided to start running regularly again and today is Day One. It has been awhile. I ran in high school and even though I was never very good, I enjoyed it. I continued to run somewhat regularly during my first few years of college but it was actually on my mission that I began running six days a week again. This continued after I returned home until I injured my ankle when I stepped in a pothole during a night run. Over the past four and a half years, life has offered me enough excuses that I have never found enough energy and motivation to resume my running: marriage, graduation, pregnancy, new baby, pregnancy again, moving, etc. It is always easy to find an excuse not to exercise.

Since I had Colin at the end of February, I have wanted to begin running again, but during the past few weeks I feel driven to finally just do it. And not just to lose the lingering 10 pounds of baby weight. I feel like I need it on several levels: physically, emotionally, and even spiritually. A time when it is just me and my thoughts. A time to strengthen and renew.

I found a Couch to 5k program online and I think it will help me start running again without killing me the first week.

So, I am starting tonight and once I have posted this, there can be no more excuses!

I know what you mean about how much exercise feels good. I've missed it so so much during this pregnancy...I'm seriously addicted. I'm not a long distance runner like you though, (I'm more like a 20 minute jog/warm up with some sit ups and push ups and yoga and aerobics mixed in there because just running makes me get bored and give up.) To each his own, right? (By the way, I didn't notice any lingering pounds on you when I last saw you...are you sure your scale is correct?)

Hooray for Marilee! I'll have to check that out. I'm a bit of a couch potato myself lately. :) Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Go Mar! I understand about the whole finding excuses not to exercise thing. That would be me! I need to follow your good example!

Good for you! Ummm, I think you know what I am going to say...running in Malta. All I remember about those sleepy mornings is your pony tail swishing as I watched you run. Good times. And yes! You guys should come to Boston! Or maybe we could meet in the middle somewhere, like the Hill Cumorah pagent or something? You guys going?
