I have been busy the past few weeks planning our ward visiting teaching conference and have been reflecting a lot lately on how visiting teaching has blessed my life. I have been so blessed with wonderful companions, visiting teachers, and sisters on my route and each has taught me something different. I have been inspired, uplifted, and encouraged. They have served me both in big and small ways and have let me into their lives to hopefully do the same. When Christ appeared to the people in the Americas, he invited them to come unto him one by one. When he ministered in Jerusalem, he not only taught sermons to thousands but took the time to teach individuals. It only makes sense that the Lord would ask us to minister and serve each other on such an intimate and individual basis.
How has visiting teaching blessed your life?

I don't know if that was rhetorical or not, but I'll tell you anyway. Yesterday I found out that my VTers were changed; I only had them for 2 months. But, they came over for the first time the day we scheduled Spencer's eye surgery. I was so overwhelmed emotionally because it was so soon, and I didn't know what I was going to do for childcare for the other kids. Not only did they volunteer to help out with childcare, they brought us meals and helped us through dr appts and illnesses as well. They were the right people at the right time to be there for me and our family, and help us when we couldn't do it all ourselves. It was definitely inspired and just added to my testimony of visiting teaching. I love the VT program! ~A~
I have been so taken care of my present and past visiting teachers. And visiting teaching gives me an opportunity to serve someone intimately who wouldn't otherwise ask for help! Such an inspired program! Thanks for your thoughts, Marilee.
I had 2 VT in Florida...the only time I have actually had some come, and they were wonderful. Instead of a gab session, they brought the message from the first pres and asked how I was doing, they took me to the airport at 4am, brought me dinner when I had Naomi, and watched my kids when I needed them. They were a true blessing to me of Christlike service. It is not about numbers - the person, always the person, no matter how near or far they live. Even though they may not be on your route anymore, they are always your sister. ..... Just some of my thoughts. love ya
It has blessed me more than anyone will ever know. Sometimes I have felt so lonely and just needed a friend. So many times my visiting teachers did not come, but when they did and they truly cared and were not in a hurry just to get the message out so they could report that they did it is when it matter. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to and a lending ear.
Marilee, I miss being your VT comp! But I'm trying to move on. My VT here called me after Claire was born to see how I was. The funny thing was, she had just had a baby too, after Claire was born! I felt so loved. Just one example of many. Also, I love getting to know sisters I wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to know, like our wonderful sister who crocheted temple alter covers.
